Good morning
We've been in London for two weeks.
It feels like autumn is rapidly approaching.
The temperature is beginning to drop.
When the sun isn't out, you feel that you need a light down jacket.
The shower was cold again this morning so we (reluctantly) phoned the emergency number.
Fortunately, the repairman came within two hours and fixed it.
Liberty
Today, we went to Liberty's.
I've always wanted to go there.
We took the 29 bus from our flat and got off near the shop.
Beer with a pooh label.
I think the first cartoonist to put legs on pooh was Akira Toriyama,
the creator of Dragon Ball.
John got caught in a bookshop trap again...
(He's already inside the shop)
Are these really crab apples as John supposes?
Does anyone know?
Lots of buses in Regent Street!
The interior of Liberty's
It's an interesting building inside and outside.
The outside of Liberty's
(street view from googlemap)
I wanted to visit this store because I think it's famous for fabrics.
It's popular with Japanese people and there were quite a few there.
We left the shop without buying anything and went to a pub.
You've probably had enough of "pubs" but that's the main reason we're here.
John said, "if it wasn't for the pubs, there wouldn't be much point in coming"!
We headed for the Rice Wine Shop in Soho again.
After two weeks, I'm beginning to miss rice so I bought some.
I asked the young Japanese shop assistant
if there were any good reasonable Japanese restaurants nearby
and she told us a couple of places.
We decided to have dinner at one of them.
Now, to the pub
Admiral Duncan
It's a gay pub.
There was a nail-bomb attack in 1999.
We didn't take a lot of photos.
I had a pint of Guinness for a change.
It tasted better than Guinness in Japan.
They have a drag queen show every night.
After leaving the pub we went for an early dinner at Misato in Chinatown.
We met Pika-chu on the way.
Misato
Eh? We're here a couple of years ago.
John had tonkatsu (pork cutlets with rice and cabbage) again.
and I had pork fried with ginger.
It wasn't bad.
I was so happy to eat rice!
The bill
After that, we went back to Camden to try another pub.
On the way to the bus stop, we found another Japanese restaurant.
If we ever live in London,
I'd like to work here.
I took this photo from the bus.
We jumped off the bus to go and meet these people.
Pearly Kings and Queens
The man on the left is a Pearly King and the one on the right is his son, a Pearly Prince.
Over a hundred years ago, it became fashionable for
costermongers (street traders) to sew mother-of-pearl buttons
on the seams of their trousers.
Then, a street sweeper named Henry Croft, adopted this fashion
to draw attention to himself and his fund-raising activities for people in need.
John saw a Pearly King when he was a little boy
and he was really excited to meet one again.
The Pearly Kings an Queens are a charitable society now.
LYTTELTON ARMS
John, a real Cockney!
He may have met my John's father,
who used to play the piano at the Lambeth Walk.
John the Cockney looked like a character in a Guy Ritchie movie.
Listen to a real Cockney speaking Cockney!
It used to be frowned upon but now it's regarded as hyper-cool!
More about Cockneys
After that, we went back to the flat and crashed.
See you tomorrow!
